Times Super Mario Made No Sense

Times Super Mario Made No Sense

Times Super Mario Made No Sense
TheGamer

Something New

15 Times Super Mario Made No Sense And No One Noticed
Due to the popularity of the character, few people ever stop and wonder how the world of Super Mario actually works. Super Mario Bros. is one of the most popular and recognizable gaming franchises. Every time Nintendo shows off a new game in the main series, people immediately lose their minds. The Italian plumber continues to innovate and pioneer the 3D platforming genre, and we love every minute of it. Due to the popularity of the character, few people ever stop and wonder how the world of Super Mario actually works. After some careful reflection on our part, we realized that a lot of the principles in the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond don't make a lot of sense. However, because of the love the series has gained over the years, people just skim over the details (generally speaking). With the recent showcase of Super Mario Odyssey, we thought it might be fun to take a look at the series as a whole and see where its laws and rules don't exactly add up. Any game in the Mario series is fair game as we explore 15 times Super Mario made no sense and nobody noticed. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY
Baby Rosalina
via deviantart.net Mario Kart 8 boasted the most characters that the series had seen yet. However, it was stuffed with all of the Koopalings and unnecessary alterations on existing characters (cough, Tanooki Mario, cough). While most of them are just annoying, there is one who just makes no sense whatsoever: Baby Rosalina. The existence of Baby Rosalina is a little controversial enough, but we'll let it slide knowing that she does have an origin (as shown in Super Mario Galaxy 2). Where the two stories contradict is where it's shown that Rosalina had red hair as a child, but in Mario Kart 8, is depicted with yellow hair and a blue dress, like adult Rosalina. It's not continuity breaking by any means, but it's different enough to raise an eyebrow.
Mario With Humans
via gamespot.com Super Mario Odyssey is a delightfully weird game, but with it comes some interesting questions. The first question is raised when we see Mario parading around a bustling place known as New Donk City. It's there that we see Mario walking alongside actual humans. Like, real, lifelike humans. What makes this extremely confusing is the fact that Mario himself is a human. His cartoony style led many to believe that's how humans looked in his world. Clearly, that may no longer be the case. Another issue with this is that it contradicts a lot of information put together when trying to discern Mario's true height (sorry, MatPat). Regardless, New Donk City looks to be a fun and purposely weird setting that we'll eventually get to explore this October.
Mario Racing Sonic
via youtube.com A Mario and Sonic crossover was bound to happen at some time, but never did we expect that it would result in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. While the franchise has certainly overstayed its welcome at this point, people were fairly excited when it was first announced. However, many people simply glossed over an important fact in the game. One look at the cover art and you'll see that Mario and Sonic are both hurdling and trying to beat each other. The issue here is that, in a race, Sonic would destroy Mario in a matter of seconds. Yet, in both the art and the game itself, Sonic and Mario are seen racing at the same pace. I understand that they had to balance the game, but it's just embarrassing to see Mario beat Sonic at a foot race.
No Plumbing Whatsoever
via youtube.com Let me ask you a question: why in the world is Mario a plumber? Does it take the central theme of his games? Has he legitimately done anything in the sewers past the Mario Bros game on the NES? No? Then what's the point? When it comes to video games, we are willing to accept things that aren't too out of the ordinary, but that doesn't make that they make more sense. The fact that Mario is still described as a plumber is confusing for many reasons. The first is that there are no mechanics or features in the games to suggest that Mario has any plumbing skills whatsoever. The second is the fact that he spends his time saving the Mushroom Kingdom. Where along the way would a plumbing profession be relevant or useful to that?
Transitioning To The Hero
via nintendo.co.uk Believe it or not, Mario wasn't always the hero. In his first appearance, Donkey Kong, Mario was an unkind person. The entire reason Donkey Kong kidnapped Pauline was that Mario treated him very poorly. Then to make matters worse, Mario became even more sadistic for Donkey Kong Jr. After rescuing Pauline, Mario decides to kidnap Donkey Kong and it's up to his son, Donkey Kong Jr., to rescue him. However, Mario unleashes all kinds of traps in an attempt to kill the young gorilla. Yet, Nintendo deemed him popular enough to turn him into the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom and nobody batted an eyelash. Are we just going to forget that Mario tried to brutally murder a baby gorilla? Even in his newer games, he still destroys turtles by jumping on them.
Breathing In Space
via ign.com Let's talk about Super Mario Galaxy for a hot minute. Yes, I know it's a marvel of platforming and all that, but there's an aspect of it that makes no sense at all, and that's the fact that Mario and numerous other characters (from the planet Earth, mind you) can breathe in space with no problem. It's explained that Mario is able to breathe because a Luma stays with him to allow it, but even that doesn't make any sense. How does a sentient star carry the power to let someone else breathe in space? Furthermore, Yoshi, Luigi, Toad, and more can all stand in deep space with no problems whatsoever. While it does make for a great game, the setting isn't the most logically solid premise in gaming.
Breathing Underwater
via themushroomkingdom.net While we're talking about how Mario can breathe in space, let's take a moment to address his swimming skills. There are numerous levels in the Super Mario series that force Mario underwater where he then has to dodge all sorts of fish and creatures (and somehow hits them with fireballs at the same time, which already is enough to raise an eyebrow or two). The head-scratching part of this is that Mario breathes underwater with no problem. While most people would be able to last several minutes, Mario can stay there indefinitely and just mosey on through as fast or slow as he likes. This ability of his has led to many thinking there's more to Mario than we actually know (and that he may be more than just human).
Mushroom Power-Up
via wikia.com Now that we've addressed a lot of big concerns, let's backpedal to a core concept of the Super Mario franchise. Odds are that you've played one of these games and found a Mushroom. You simply touch it and Mario grows to a bigger size. Now stop for a minute. How in the world does it work like that? I understand that it could be a reference to the fact that there is a mushroom that gives the sensation of growing, but for it to do this, in reality, is just absurd! Furthermore, Mario takes a hit and then shrinks. Yeah, that seems like the logical response. Don't get me wrong, I love the mushroom power-up, but the more I think about it, the less sense it makes.
Super Mario Sunshine s Plot
via youtube.com The 3D Mario games are some of the greatest hits that Nintendo has ever created. Take a look at Super Mario Sunshine for example. Moving the series over to the GameCube provided some of the best visuals for the franchise as well as some unique gameplay mechanics that wouldn't have been possible previously. Yet, the plot itself doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Mario and Peach go an vacation to Isle Delfino and it has been terrorized by a Shadow Mario for quite some time. Because Mario looks like Shadow Mario, he gets arrested and is tasked with cleaning up the world. The big problem here is that Shadow Mario had been tormenting the Piantas long before Mario ever got there. Knowing that he just arrived, they should've known that Mario wasn't the real culprit.
Rainbow Road
via nerdburglars.net Mario Kart, for the most part, has a lot of sensible yet crazy tracks. Of all of the franchise, there is only one course that doesn't make any sense: Rainbow Road. This track has reappeared in every Mario Kart game to date. For those of you that aren't familiar, the course is essentially a rainbow in space. There are no barriers, so expect to fall off the track often. It's no doubt a difficult course and one that invites a lot of challenge, but that doesn't mean it makes sense. First of all, how do the racers get to Rainbow Road? There seems to be no way of actually arriving there reasonably. Secondly, how does everyone breathe in space with no problems? Lastly, why is there gravity? Everyone should be floating around deep space trying to pass each other instead of driving on a road and falling off.
The Toads
via wallpapercave.com Of all the things in Super Mario that make me question it, the Mushroom Kingdom itself is the most confusing. The place is ruled by Princess Peach (more on that later). Despite the fact that she is a fully realized human being, all of her subjects are the toads (little mushroom guys). Regardless of the perspective you're looking at this from, it doesn't add up. If Peach was the princess of this crazy kingdom, shouldn't her subjects be human as well? On the flipside, it is the MUSHROOM Kingdom and its inhabitants are little mushroom people. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a mushroom queen on top of this? Then where does Bowser fit into this scenario? I have so many questions.
Peach Rules The Kingdom
via screenrant.com Another nonsensical aspect of the Mushroom Kingdom is the fact that Princess Peach is in charge. I already talked about how that's confusing when all of the citizens are mushroom people, but that's not the issue here. Instead, why is a princess ruling a kingdom? Why hasn't the Mushroom King/Queen shown up in any of the games? I don't think Peach's heritage is even talked about in the series (perhaps Mario just doesn't want to hear about the in-laws). Keeping this in mind, one could say that the Mushroom King is absent or died long ago. If that were the case, then Princess Peach should instead be called Queen Peach. It doesn't make sense that a human princess would be perpetually ruling this world of Toads, turtles, and sentient bullets.
Tanooki Leaf And Feather
via technobuffalo.com Going off of more power-ups, there are still a few more that don't make a lot of sense. The first one is the Tanooki Leaf. So, Mario travels through the Mushroom Kingdom, hits a block, and out comes a little brown leaf. He touches it and immediately turns into a Tanooki who can then fly using his new tail. Other games just had the Propeller Head or the Winged Cap. Another power-up of this caliber is the Feather. First introduced in Super Mario World, this power-up gives Mario a cape that he can defeat enemies and reflect projectiles with. Then if he's feeling really daring, he can shoot into the sky and fly for long distances. Why a feather would result in this cape power-up, I'll never know.
Switching Pauline For Peach
via wikia.com When Mario first appeared in gaming, he had a lady named Pauline. After being kidnapped by the giant Donkey Kong, Mario had to work tirelessly in order to save her on more than one occasion. However, the dynamic with his lady changed once he made the jump to the Mushroom Kingdom in Super Mario Bros. All of a sudden, Pauline was nowhere to be found and Princess Toadstool was instead the woman that Mario needed to save. This would've made more sense had there been some canonical explanation for Pauline's disappearance. Yet, to make things even more complicated, Pauline has since returned in the Mario Vs. Donkey Kong series, as well as Super Mario Odyssey.
Boos Not Looking At Mario
via wikia.com The Super Mario series has a little bit of everything in terms of enemies. There are Goombas that you just jump on to kill them. Then there are the Koopas who get stuck in their shells that Mario has to then dodge. If you manage to get to a Haunted House, you'll encounter the Mushroom Kingdom ghosts, otherwise known as Boos. What is extremely nonsensical about the Boos is that when Mario looks at them, they cover their faces and don't move as if they're scared. They only chase him when he's not looking. While this definitely leads to easier platforming, it doesn't make sense for a ghost to try and hide from a mortal that it's trying to destroy. If I were a ghost, I would pursue Mario without hesitation.

Times That Pokémon Went WAY Too Far

Times That Pokémon Went WAY Too Far

Times That Pokémon Went WAY Too Far
TheGamer

Something New

15 Times That Pokémon Went WAY Too Far
Whether you like it or not, Pokémon has taken it too far too many times. For a franchise that's been around for more than 20 years, the Pokémon series has had its fair share of highs, lows, and everything in-between. It's wowed us with its addictive gameplay, disappointed us in its terrible decisions (), and overall cemented itself as one of the most prolific and beloved franchises in video game history. That doesn't mean that history hasn't been more than a little muddled at times, though. Despite being a "family-friendly" video game series that children everywhere beg and plead their parents for, and an anime that is doing quite well in its 20th season (no small feat!), it has taken things way too far time after time in the past. From taking a joke much farther than it should have been to horrifying us in ways we didn't think possible to even causing actual pain and suffering across the world, it is no doubt that Pokémon has made us go "Woah, slow down there!" many times in its long and rich history. I, personally, adore the series and its nigh-endless repetitive cycle of catch, battle, catch, battle some more, breed, and so on. Even so, I have been shocked many, many times by the sometimes astonishing methods that the series' creators have attempted to convey a specific message or theme. Whether you like it or not, Pokémon has taken it too far too many times. Maybe you didn't even know about some these, or you yourself are a victim of the shock and terror, but regardless, here are 15 times that Pokémon took things way too far. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY
Registeel Controversy
via aminoapps.com All hail, Regigigas! Registeel and his compatriots Regice and Regirock are known for their interesting background. They are each inspired by the golem, a somewhat sentient clay creature that is brought to life, originating from a Jewish legend. This alone is intriguing in and of itself, but Nintendo took it one step further. In fact, it took it a step way too far with the introduction of Registeel in the third generation of games, Ruby and Sapphire. In these games, Registeel’s sprite is seen clearly raising his left hand in salute, very similar to the same Nazi salute that is infamous across the world. Because of this, it had to be edited for the European version of the game, as any sort of Nazi imagery and symbolism is banned in Germany. In fact, Nintendo would later realize its misstep and change all further sprites for Registeel to a non-fascist stance. Whether intentional or not, Nintendo made a tasteless statement with its ironic usage of a facist-like salute from a Jewish-inspired Pokémon
Pokémon Go s String Of Corpse Discoveries
via imgur.com Released nearly a year ago (I know, hard to believe!), Pokémon Go set the world on fire like no other mobile game has before. Everyone from you, your friends, your family, and maybe even your dog set out on real world adventures to find, catch, and battle Pokémon. The unfortunate and unique requirement of having to physically get off the couch and go outside and explore led to countless interesting stories sweeping the web from totally not sketchy 3am strolls through the park to teaching a police officer about the mobile phenomenon. But, none were as interesting as the people that discovered actual dead bodies. Take for instance, the Wyoming girl who was just minding her own business, attempting to catch a water Pokémon by the river, only to find a corpse floating in the water. This is but one of the many such stories. While some were found to be fake, it is still a surprise that what was meant to be a fun and addictive way to get everyone to exercise became a quick lesson in forensics.
Jynx Blackface
via pinterest.com Oh, Nintendo. Pokémon can be the oh so cute and cuddly type, but they can also be an absolute abomination. Almost all of the humanoid Pokémon are creepy and disturbing, Jynx most of all. This Generation 1 Ice and Psychic-type came at a time long before the Internet was so prevalent and, of course, before anyone would start the social justice movement. However, this Pokémon still made news across the world, even in the 90s, and outraged many people over its controversial design. The puffed up lips and pitch black sin tone led many to believe this was a racist depiction against black people. Many believed that The Pokémon Company had indeed created a "blackface Pokémon." Blackface dates back to long before slavery had been abolished in the United States and remained prominent even into the 20th century. It is a form of makeup style that was used in performances primarily for turning a non-black person into a black role. Obviously, this is highly offensive and Jynx's appearance created much controversy. Nintendo would later change her skin color to purple, but not before the damage had already been done.
The Cross-dressing Episode
via therichest.com Family friendly channels like Disney and Nickelodeon are known for injecting more mature subjects and humor into their shows (we're looking at you, SpongeBob), but Pokémon did it in a less subtle and even far more inappropriate way. Take, for example, the delightfully named episode "Beauty and the Beach." In this Season 1 episode of the show, a beauty contest is held and many of the core cast members join, including Team Rocket's own James. James is seen dressing up as a female, which is not necessarily new to the series (a common humor device), but they took it way too far in this specific scenario. James' beach attire is a skimpy bikini complete with fake, inflatable breasts. In one scene in particular, he is shown inflating his humongous chest to unnatural proportions and then proceeding to taunt Misty about her own size.
Yamask s Pitiful Existence
via pinterest.com Now, time for some Pokédex entries that are unnecessarily controversial, starting with poor Yamask. Not only is Yamask a pretty unremarkable Pokémon to begin with, his Pokédex entry only makes things more depressing. Coming directly from Pokémon Black's entry: "Each of them carries a mask that used to be its face when it was human. Sometimes they look at it and cry." Wow, that's dark. While it was already known long before Yamask's introduction in Generation V that humans can and do turn into Pokémon, this is too much. Not only did Yamask somehow die when it was human and possess a mask (already pretty twisted), but the mask resembles its former human face and it is now forced to carry on that sorrow and pain for the rest of its existence. Brutal.
The Vengeful Dolls
via pokemon.wikia.com Jumping to the other side of the Pokémon spectrum, we have the Ghost-type Banette. Banette is completely terrifying just to look at with its creepy eyes and that horrific zipper smile. This is all before we begin to dig into its backstory. Some Pokédex entries tell us that Banette will stick pins into itself to send curses on its enemies. That alone is too far, but, once again, it's taken a step even further. Other entries give us Banette's origins as a doll that was once abandoned by its child owner and now focuses solely on seeking out them for revenge. That'll make you regret all those beanie babies you got rid of.
All Life Is Bound To Yveltal
via youtube.com We all know that life is precious and we should always be nice, considerate, and loving to each other, but what does it matter if all of existence could be snuffed in an instant? Pull your loved ones close because that could happen any second now in the Pokémon world. Pokémon Y's legendary Yveltal is an impressive-looking bird, but it holds a sinister secret. Its Pokédex entry tells us that it is essentially a God of destruction and all life as we know it is bound to it. That might not seem like a big deal at first glance, but if Yveltal were to somehow die, it would absorb all life force in the universe. Everything would come to an end. Good to know that the fate of every living thing can be commanded by a 10 year old trainer.
That s A Weird Way To Stay Warm
via aminoapps.com While the Pokémon world does feature cars, telephones, televisions, video game systems, and all sorts of modern technology that is reminiscent of our own, it is apparently very hard to keep warm. This is shown in the insane methods that citizens of the world utilize to keep thesmelves from freezing to death during the dark days of winter. The fire-type Pokémon Darumaka is known to release droppings (aka poop) that are quite hot. The people are so desperate to keep warm that they will literally take that poop and put it inside their clothes. We're not joking about that. There are no more words needed for this one.
All Of Lavender Town
via youtube.com I'm not sure what the developers were thinking when they made Lavender Town in the first Pokémon games. It's true that this small town exhibits a tranquil and quiet peace, but it is also one of the most disturbing places in video game history. From the purple hue to the ghost-filled cemetery tower to the haunting theme, the town has a lingering atmosphere of death all over it. There are countless theories and legends about this crazy place, but none more disturbing than about its music. Legend says that the music is actually hypnotic and that only small children can hear it. It's said to have a level of mind control to it that led many children in Japan to suicide. This has long since been debunked, but with the creepiness that is Lavender Town, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a little bit of truth to it.
Letting Children Do Whatever They Want
via pokemon.wikia.com I get it; it's a video game. And not only that, but one that is catered to young children and adults alike. However, it is quite the stretch to build a world in which adults allow a 10 year olds to go off on a journey with creatures they just met to battle other trainers. Let alone, the fact that many of the same creatures have the ability to kill a person in an instant without having to really try. What's worse is that the game has hinted in the past to a slight excuse for why this is alright. It is widely known that before the original games there was an infamous war that occurred between countries. Countless casualties were recorded, leaving many children possibly without a parent or two and the world with way less adults.
Cubone s Mommy Issues
via pokemon.wikia.com Cubone is easily one of the best looking Pokémon around. He's sort of a lookalike of Agumon from rival franchise Digimon that wears a totally rad skull and wields a boomerang-esque bone. A total rebel. Also, he's a surprisingly tragic pocket monster. Just a glimpse at its Pokédex entry reveals the startling revelations Nintendo could've left under wraps. It is revealed that the skull on its head is actually the former head of its mother, Marowak. That's morbid enough, until you find out more. If you ever see unique marks on the skull, those are just the stains left by Cubone's tears. The most recent entries in the series, Sun and Moon, tell us that the Alolan Pokémon Mandibuzz flies around and when it hears Cubone's cries, it swoops down for the attack. At the very least, this all makes Cubone even more likely to be a grungy symbol.
Banned Tentacruel Terrorist Episode
via pokemon.wikia.com Unlike the previously mentioned James inflatable breasts fiasco, there are episodes of the Pokémon anime that couldn't just be edited a little bit to fix their mistakes, but had to be totally banned, even if it was temporarily. Such is the case for episode 19, "Tentacool & Tentacruel." In this action-packed episode, Ash and the team arrive to a port city to find it under attack by an unstoppable Tentacool. A plan to defeat the creature backfires and, instead, turns it into Godzilla Tentacruel. From there, it begins to destroy skyscraper after skyscraper. The very sad problem was this aired around the terrible 9/11 terrorist attack, obviously leading to a swift ban that lasted a few years.
Absolute Genocide
via idigitaltimes.com The actual storyline in most Pokémon games is forgettable at best, including the almost nonexistent one in Pokémon X and Y. That being said, what is there certainly goes beyond anything the developers have written before. The main villain in those games attempts to use a deadly weapon to basically wipe out the world. That's crazy enough on its own, but what's even crazier is that it has already been used once before. A man named AZ created it after his beloved Pokemon was killed in a war. The purpose of the weapon was to revive his dead partner. The cost? The lives of countless Pokémon. He did end up using the weapon and it succeeded in reviving the Pokémon, while committing mass genocide in the process. In the end, his Pokémon saw what he had done and left him, devastated.
That Time Pokémon Gave People Seizures
via hyperpoke.com Admittedly, it is hard to top something like our last entry, but this is even worse, simply because it affected people in the real world. What I'm referring to is the most controversial episode in Pokémon history, episode 38 of the first season. This so called "Porygon" episode is infamous for its usage of visual effects like extreme flashing lights. These effects had a profound effect on a large number of people in Japan, causing hundreds of seizures. There is known to be nearly 700 citizens that had to be hospitalized because of this episode, with some staying in the hospital for more than two weeks. This would lead to the episode being banned, the show going on hiatus for four months, and Porygon (though innocent) being never really shown again in the TV series to date. Nintendo has been reminded of its extreme error through numerous parodies and references from shows like South Park and The Simpsons.
Ash Is Still 10 Years Old
via girlschannel.net It's been joked about, made fun of, created frustration, and also made its creators a lot of money. The fact that more than 20 years after the beginning of the Pokémon anime we have the same exact protagonist and he hasn't aged one bit, well, that's quite the issue. Whatever the reason may be, branding or familiarity and the like, Ash is still the same age as he was the day he set off on his journey to become a Pokémon Master. To Nintendo and The Pokémon Company's credit, it has been quite successful for them, but they've taken it too far. It's time to move on. If the new movie coming this year is anything to go on, they may very well be gearing up to do so. The new Pokémon film will go back and do a strange retelling of when Ash got Pikachu. This is hopefully a sign of Pokémon of bringing to a halt this train that has gone way too far. If that fails, at least Ash is finally going to school.

Punk would take to Twitter to promote an upcoming interview where he'd address everything going on in the wrestling world. At the time, WWE came under fire due to numerous stars being stuck in Saudi Arabia after one of their shows in the country. Tony took the moment as an opportunity to take a massive shot at the promotion: No one is safe? Sounds like a plane full of wrestlers in Saudi Arabia! No one is safe? Sounds like a plane full of wrestlers in Saudi Arabia! WWE Superstar and veteran would surprisingly as he took shots at the AEW President. Unfortunately, this was a fight that The Viper would lose. Tony brought up an N-word slur controversy the star was embroiled in, which left Orton at the mercy of the comment section.
#2 Tony Khan celebrates the overall success of AEW despite what skeptics said
It's difficult to remember that AEW has only been on air for three years so far. WWE has been a promotion in the business since the 1950s, when it was still known as Capitol Wrestling Corporation. Sources differ on whether or not the promotion was run by Vincent J. McMahon Snr. or his father, Jess McMahon in those days. Regardless, WWE has been around for longer than most of its current fanbase has been alive. Despite this, within two years, AEW rose to such a height that it's considered a competitor to WWE. In light of the promotion's success, Tony Khan took to Twitter to celebrate as well as take a shot at WWE: <2 years ago, our competitors said this is a marathon, not a sprint. They were right. Regardless, the promotion is still growing and just celebrated its third anniversary a few months ago.
#1 Tony Khan alludes to WWE being behind alleged bot accounts
Before an April 2022 episode of AEW Rampage, Tony Khan would puzzle and shock fans when he took to Twitter to claim that bot accounts on Twitter have been trying to bring AEW down. Not only did Khan take a shot at many of the accounts that seemingly exist to criticize AEW, the president alluded to the party behind it having deep pockets: An independent study has confirmed that much of the staunch anti-AEW online community aren’t real individuals, it’s a staff running thousands of accounts + an army of bots to signal boost them. Look closely, these aren’t real people. Who’d pay for such a *wildly* expensive thing? An independent study has confirmed that much of the staunch anti-AEW online community aren’t real individuals, it’s a staff running thousands of accounts + an army of bots to signal boost them. Look closely, these aren’t real people. Who’d pay for such a *wildly* expensive thing? At this stage, the claims have not been verified or denied by either Khan or WWE. While Tony never outright mentioned WWE, there's no denying that the promotion is the only one with deep enough pockets to fund such a thing. Times TV schedule for NCAA basketball tournament

Times, TV schedule for NCAA basketball tournament NCAA.com
CHAMPS
PRESENTED BY March is here and the madness has arrived. Here's how you can watch tonight's championship game between No. 1 seeds Gonzaga and North Carolina. 2017 March Madness Final Four Schedule National Championship Game Monday, April 3 Live stream link to National Championship game Time (ET) Network 9 p.m. CBS
From NCAA.com's Mike Lopresti, here's some of the similarities (and differences) between North Carolina and Gonzaga: GLENDALE, Ariz. – Gonzaga and North Carolina. In some ways the perfect date for the national championship game, in other ways the odd couple. North Carolina is from Tobacco Road, Gonzaga from the foothills of the Rockies, 2,567 miles apart. The last championship pairing of such distance was Villanova and UCLA in 1971. North Carolina is playing in its 11th national championship basketball game, hoping for its sixth title – not to mention its 48th overall, between soccer, lacrosse and whatnot. Gonzaga seeks its first national championship in any sport. In 1995, Gonzaga played in the NCAA tournament for the first time. That year was appearance No. 29 for North Carolina. 2 incredible games leaves us with...

2 incredible teams for...

1 incredible Game. — NCAA March Madness (@marchmadness) Roy Williams is the most famous person born in Marion, North Carolina, population just under 8,000. Mark Few is the most famous native son of Creswell, Oregon, population 5,000 and change. “You just take off on your bike and go anywhere,” he said of his childhood there. “You didn’t have to tell anybody. It was Mayberry.” Speaking of Mayberry, North Carolina’s best-known alumnus might be Andy Griffith. Gonzaga’s would be Bing Crosby. Unless the category is basketball, and then it’s Michael Jordan and John Stockton. Fellow Dream Teamers. Williams has won 79 percent of his games – 815-216 – which makes him No. 2 on the active list of coaches with at least five years of experience. The only man he trails? Mark Few, who is at 81.7 with his 503-112. This is the 20th time in the last 44 years a team from the state of North Carolina is playing in the national championship game. This is the first time since 1958 that a team from the state of Washington is there. Seattle. Both teams are No. 1 seeds. This is only the eighth time that’s happened in the 39-year history of tournament seeding. North Carolina has been in three. The Tar Heels won them all. WE'RE GOING BACK TO THE !!! — Carolina Basketball (@UNC_Basketball) North Carolina has Rameses the Ram. Gonzaga has Spike the Bulldog. Williams loves to play golf, and sprinkles his stories with references of the sport. Talking about what the past two seasons have met to him, for instance. “These two teams have really been therapeutic for me. They’ve really made me feel good about what I’m doing. When I was 19, 6:30, 7 Saturday morning, I was always the guy calling everybody about meeting at the golf course at what time. I’m the guy that sets up all the golf trips right now. “So it’s always been me to try to get groups of people to do things and have fun with it. And these two teams have really been a lot of fun.” Few loves to fish, and often makes outdoor references, such as the time last fall when he took his team into the wilderness for some bonding, including a night-time hike that the players still talk about in terror. “Just amazing that they would be so frightful of being out in God’s country, in the dark where there’s absolutely nothing that could do anything to them, but they have no issues wandering the streets of south Chicago or Los Angeles at night. When you're one win from the — NCAA March Madness (@marchmadness) “The night walk was basically maybe 25 yards down to the lake, and it’s being described as this epic journey to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. And it was on a nice kind of groomed dirt trail, so yeah, not my usual outdoor experience. But it helped. The unwritten story for this team is just how they assimilated so quickly with so many new faces, and that little 48 hours really, truly helped us.” Of the nine North Carolina players who saw action Saturday, four are from in-state, three more from nearby states. The eight Gonzaga players who saw action Saturday are scattered over six states – none from Washington – plus Poland and France. North Carolina was fourth in the nation in attendance this season averaging 18.087, filling up Smith Center, which was named after coaching legend Dean Smith. Gonzaga was 89th in the nation in attendance this season averaging 6,000, filling up McCarthey Athletic Center, which was named after two brothers who graduated from the school in English and literature and put up the money. Both teams scored 77 points Saturday. The last Final Four that saw identical winning scores in the semifinals was 1991. Williams’ first Final Four, by the way. Few had just gotten his first full-time college assistant’s job that year. GONZAGA WILL PLAY FOR IT ALL!

Bulldogs beat South Carolina, 77-73, to advance to first Game. — NCAA March Madness (@marchmadness) Gonzaga’s NCAA tournament opponents are shooting 34.6 percent, the lowest for a championship game participant in four years. North Carolina shot 36.6 against Oregon. That’s the lowest for a Tar Heels’ NCAA tournament victory since 1967. If North Carolina wins, it will be 19th national championship in the past 20 years for a school from the Eastern time zone. If Gonzaga wins, it will be the first national championship for the Pacific time zone since Arizona in 1997. North Carolina is No. 1 in the nation in rebound margin, and that could be important Monday night. Gonzaga is No. 2 in the nation in field goal percentage defense, and that could be, too. North Carolina beat Gonzaga 98-77 in the 2009 Sweet 16 in Memphis. Two night before the game, both coaching staffs had gone out together one night to a Mississippi casino and played craps. Both Williams and Few lost. Gonzaga beat North Carolina 82-74 in the 2006 pre-season NIT. Those are their only two meetings, and only joint casino excursion. North Carolina has seven losses. The last national champion with seven defeats was Michigan State in 2000. Redemption. — Carolina Basketball (@UNC_Basketball) Gonzaga has one defeat. The last one-loss national champion was North Carolina State, 43 years ago. Williams has made one college head coaching move in is life, from Kansas to his alma mater. Few has made none, spending a career at Gonzaga. “You probably don’t want to admit it, but at least in my case, you end up being more like your parents than you even think,” he said the other day. “My dad was 54 years in the same church. I think it’s a record. Usually those pastors move around like every five or six years. Fifty-four years at the same little church, with a congregation of 100, 125 people. “So I think that’s probably instilled in my brain and soul and something I didn’t even realize at the time. Times The Witcher Series BUTCHERED The Books

Times The Witcher Series BUTCHERED The Books

Times The Witcher Series BUTCHERED The Books
TheGamer

Something New

15 Times The Witcher Series BUTCHERED The Books
CD Projekt Red did an incredible job on developing the Witcher novels into a game, but some writing decisions were off the mark. When starting up any game by CD Projekt Red, the first thing you may notice is a caption that says "Inspired by the work of Andrzej Sapkowski." Many gamers do not know that the award-winning game series was originally a long-running series of novels. Sapkowski praised CD Projekt Red's work but has no interest in actually playing them. He believes the games took attention away from the novels, but the reaction from gamers was the opposite. Fans of the who learned that the series was based on books were eager to read them. The Witcher book series consists of two short story collections and five novels. The novel series takes place five years before the events of the games. They offer insight into familiar faces in the series, such as the protagonist Geralt of Rivia and his best friend, Dandelion. The names you've heard on your travels, such as Temeria, Kaedwin, and Cintra will hold more meaning to you. You'll understand why they were so important and why war tore them apart. Unfortunately the games are not a perfect representation of the novels. CD Projekt Red did an incredible job on developing the novels into a game, but some of the writing decisions they made were off the mark. This list contains spoilers for both the Witcher novels and game series. Read on if you're ready to learn how CD Projekt Red's adaptation greatly changed from Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY
Alvin Was Geralt s Child Of Destiny
via: youtube.com (CJake3) When CD Projekt Red developed the first Witcher game, there were many inconsistencies in the lore. Ciri has always been a central character in the novels, but she was replaced by a young boy named Alvin. Alvin has many similarities to Sapkowski's Ciri. Alvin had Elder Blood flowing through him and could travel through time and space. He had powerful abilities he was unable to control fully. Geralt also adopted him, in a similar manner to Ciri. When Geralt first attempted to take Ciri by the Law of Surprise, he left her behind. Geralt finally took her with him after meeting her again and realizing fate wanted them together. Alvin's adoption by Geralt is similar: Geralt meets the boy a few times before deciding to take him under his wing. In the game sequels, Alvin is replaced by Geralt's true Child of Destiny, Ciri.
Silver Is Required To Kill Monsters
via: nexusmods.com Fighting a large variety of monsters and men is an important aspect of the Witcher game series. Geralt always carries two swords on his back: one made of silver used for slaying monsters and the second made of steel for slaying men. An emphasis is put on silver being more effective on all monsters in the games. In the novels, Geralt only carries one sword on his back. The other sword is kept with his horse, Roach. Silver swords were not required to defeat every monster. Only monsters such as specters, ghouls, and vampires who came post-conjunction, or after the Conjunction of the Spheres, required silver. Steel could still be used to defeat lesser monsters, which is why there are fewer monsters in the novels. Non-Witchers were able to destroy monsters without employing a Witcher.
Geralt Likes Being A Witcher
via: thewitcher.com In the Witcher games, Geralt is teased for being moody. Though he is more serious and pessimistic, he is still seen as a great hero. His characterization was greatly changed from his novel version. Geralt is more emotional, contrary to the belief that The Trial of Grass stripped Witchers of their emotions. He is more vocal and expresses himself more to his friends and those around him. Few things make Geralt happy in the novels. He often finds himself torn between his relationships, especially with his companion by fate, Yennefer of Vengerberg. He also hates being a Witcher because there are fewer monsters to kill. Fewer monsters mean less work and even lesser amounts of money for Geralt. In the games, contract work is still plentiful.
Signs Are A Powerful Tool In Battle
via: wallup.net Signs are incredibly powerful in the Witcher games. Level your arsenal of signs high enough, and Geralt is almost invincible. Axii can persuade any foe, and Ignis can set a forest on fire. Though the games have made the signs almost a crutch that can be used to defeat any enemy, they have less power in the novels. The unleveled base signs Geralt uses at the start of the game are still more powerful that their novel counterparts. Geralt also does not use the signs very often during battle in the novels. He uses Igni to light campfires and light candles while casting Axii to calm down his horse, Roach. He even has an additional sign, Somme, which is used to help people sleep. Though he commands many signs, he uses them primarily for mundane tasks.
The White Frost Is A Terrifying Magical Entity
via: therefinedgeek.com.au In The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, gamers learn little of the White Frost, except that it must be stopped. The White Frost is a terrifying snowstorm made of magic. If not stopped, it would consume the world. As the Child of Destiny, Ciri is the only one who can stop the world from being destroyed. It is a pivotal moment in the game. If you, as Geralt, did not make the right decisions with Ciri to make her a confident woman, this would be the last time you saw Ciri. In the novels, The White Frost has less importance. The White Frost occurs due to the natural axial tilt of the world. It brings the Ice Age closer, though the novels state it will not occur for approximately 3,000 more years.
Ciri And Yennefer Don t Share A Bond
via: forums.cdprojektred.com When we first meet Yennefer of Vengerberg in the novels, she is working on a magic spell or potion to accomplish something she always wanted. Magic users, including Sorceresses and Witchers, are sterile. Yennefer wanted to give birth to a child but was not able to. When Geralt takes Ciri under the Law of Surprise, Yennefer starts working with her. Yennefer helps Ciri control her magic abilities as Geralt teaches the young girl how to become a Witcher. Yennefer's bond with her becomes so strong that when she is captured, she undergoes painful torture, but never reveals Ciri's location. By the end of the novels, Ciri was calling Yennefer "mother." In the games, both Yennefer and Ciri don't appear until The Witcher 3. Their bond is not as strong, and they spend little time together.
Everyone Knows About The Lodge
via: witcher.wikia.com The Lodge of Sorceresses is a secret group of sorceresses from around the world. They meet in the shadows and speak through megascopes. They conspire against kings and others with power to make themselves richer. They want magic users to have a stronger role in politics. The most important thing about The Lodge is that they are a secret society. In the games, they are spoken about as if they're a household name. The Witcher I mentions The Lodge too often. Their plots are known to everyone and spoken about casually. In the later games, CD Projekt Red tones down the common knowledge of The Lodge. They have less of a role in The Witcher II and work more in the shadows. In The Witcher 3, they are finally called out as the evil, conspirator group that they are.
Dandelion Is Just A Travelling Bard
via: vg247.com In both the games and the novels, Dandelion is Geralt's best friend. He's a bard and traveling companion to the White Wolf. The novels expand on Dandelion's role, but the games reduce him to a comedic side character. Dandelion is light-hearted and a bit of a coward, which isn't surprising in a world of monsters and monstrous people. However, Dandelion is more than a bard. The games only mention in journal entries that he is also a lecturer at Oxenfurt University and studied seven different Liberal Arts. Besides from his intelligence, he is always close by when Geralt is in trouble. When Geralt is in a dark mood in the novels, he is a good friend to him. If gamers didn't know of his role in the novels, they might just find Dandelion annoying.
Overpopulation Of Monsters
via: thewitcher.com Geralt and other Witchers on The Path are destined to eliminate monsters of the world. In the novels, they're dying out, which makes Geralt question his profession. In the games, there are more than enough monsters to go around for Witchers, Sorceresses, and strong fighters hoping for extra coin. Monsters attack from every corner, and there are few signs of their extinction. When Geralt decides to retire at his vineyard after The Witcher 3's Blood and Wine expansion packs, he explains he is tired of continuing on The Path and wishes to enjoy life in Toussaint. There's no end in sight for the multiplying monsters in the game series. The only explanation would be that Witchers are dying while monsters are quickly reproducing.
Triss Merigold Is A Vital Character
via: witcher.wikia.com Triss Merigold holds greater importance to Geralt in CD Projekt Red's game series. She has the combined personalities of both her novel counterpart and her best friend, Yennefer of Vengerberg. Triss moves on to work beside royalty and gains great power. In the novels, she was not such a powerful sorceress. Triss was much younger than both Geralt and Yennefer and made her immaturity known. Triss used her magical abilities to manipulate people. She wanted Geralt to be hers, even though she knew Yennefer cared for him. The Witcher 2 shows the pair deeply involved with each other, but in the novels, Geralt is intimate with her once, then regrets it. What CD Projekt Red gets right is that Triss is obsessed with him, but they tone down her love of Geralt in the games.
Emhyr Var Emreis Is A Loving Father
via: vollhov.deviantart.com Emhyr var Emreis makes his first in-game appearance in The Witcher 3. He is Ciri's only living parent by blood. He tasks Geralt, Ciri's father figure, with finding his lost daughter. Geralt is more concerned with finding Ciri because he knows what kind of man Emhyr is. CD Projekt Red fails to give gamers more background on why Ciri wishes to avoid Emhyr. In Sapkowski's novels, Emhyr was fooled by a prophecy that stated Ciri was going to rule half of her world and her son would rule the other half Wanting that power. Emhyr wanted to marry his own blood daughter and have a son with her so that he could rule the world. Geralt wanting to find Ciri first seemed more like jealousy instead of actual concern over Emhyr's plans for her.
All Women Love Geralt Of Rivia
via: kotaku.com.au Geralt wasn't quite the handsome ladies man as CD Projekt Red portrayed him in the novels. Sapkowski's portrayal of the White Wolf was a brooding man focused on fighting. He sees himself as an outcast from society and believes few want to interact with him, though he feels the same way. Though in both the novels and games women were drawn to him, his love life wasn't as grand as the games portrayed them. His relationship with Triss was non-existent, as her love for him was not reciprocated. Sapkowski put greater emphasis on his bond with Yennefer. The novels make it clear they are destined for each other. Even as Geralt enters a relationship with Fringilla Vigo, an important character in the books that CPR spoke little of, he still thinks of Yennefer.
Yennefer Lacks Importance
via: thewitcher.com Yennefer is one of the most important characters in The Witcher novels. As soon as Geralt met her, he made a wish to bind their fates forever. For a character so important, she had little importance in the game series. She was only mentioned as an afterthought in the first two Witcher games. She finally appears in The Witcher 3, but by that time, gamers chose Triss. Yennefer had more importance in the novels. She remains a powerful Sorceress, but she and Geralt are a powerful force together. She is willing to do what it takes to protect Geralt and Ciri, even if it means she is hurt in the process. CD Projekt Red drastically decreased her importance in the game series, making her a side character compared to the well-established Triss Merigold.
Ciri Is Perfect
via: wallup.net When we finally meet Ciri again in The Witcher 3 she is a young adult. CD Projekt Red turned her from a young woman learning her place in the world into a perfect being. Geralt trained her, but in a short amount of time, she surpasses him. She is almost undefeated in battle and can shift through time to escape her foes. Her Elder Blood grants her powerful abilities, making her almost invincible compared to other magic users. Ciri is also incredibly attractive even though she has a large scar on her face. Several characters, from The Wild Hunt to her birth father, Emhyr var Emreis, want to procreate with her. Ciri is not so perfect and precious to the other characters in the novels.
Geralt Is Alive
via: youtube.com (CJake3) The Witcher games take place five years after the events of the last novel. The games star Geralt of Rivia, but there's a problem: Geralt is not supposed to be alive. Geralt even has flashbacks in The Witcher 2 speaking of his death, but CD Projekt Red fails to explain how he's still alive in the game. Geralt met his end in the novels, not by monsters, but by regular humans. Humans in the world of The Witcher have prejudices against magic users. Geralt was captured and killed by a villager's pitchfork. Ciri may have been able to transport him somewhere to safety, but his survival was not thoroughly explained. Geralt stated that no Witcher ever dies in his bed of old age. While this is true for him, he somehow survived his death and continued on The Path.

TimeSplitters May Be Returning In The Future

TimeSplitters May Be Returning In The Future

TimeSplitters May Be Returning In The Future
TheGamer

Something New

A New TimeSplitters Game Is Probably In Development
The TimeSplitters series, which has been dormant for some time, may return in some form, according to a recent statement from THQ Nordic. Via: Kotaku UK Fans of Sergeant Cortez and Corporal Hart’s time-traveling shenanigans can come close to rejoicing, as it seems as though a new TimeSplitters title is in the works, but it is best not to jinx the possibility. For those new to the first-person genre, it is reasonable to be unaware of TimeSplitters. The series began life as a PlayStation 2-exclusive launch title and has always been a far cry from the more serious and gritty likes of . It’s quite an intense and competitive FPS series, but it was more along the lines of Gotham City Imposters than . The original TimeSplitters arrived in the year 2000 and quickly made it clear that it wasn’t to be taken too seriously. It centered around the titular alien race, who seek to destroy humanity from within by manipulating events using time travel. It’s all very sci-fi, very cartoonish and very silly, and it always has been. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY Since then, we’ve seen the multi-format TimeSplitters 2 (2002) and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect (2005), both of which adhere to the same format: the campaign boasts fantastic level variety and you hop through time zones --1930s gangster levels, 1960s spy levels, and far-flung future levels abound—and the multiplayer is silly, competitive fun. If anything, the TimeSplitters series was one of sheer variety and boasts some that stands impressively above other FPS series. In short, TimeSplitters was an FPS that never took itself too seriously, and fans will be happy to hear that it looks as though another may be on the horizon. Via: Trusted Reviews As reports, THQ Nordic has recently dropped an avalanche of details about upcoming titles, including the fact that a new title is “deep in development.” Even more interestingly, though, THQ stated that a new TimeSplitters game was hinted in might be in development and Steve Ellis, the co-creator of the TimeSplitters series, had joined THQ Nordic to assist in the development of the franchise moving forward. The report goes on to remind readers that THQ Nordic bought the rights to the series from Crytek last year. Now, this is clearly nothing concrete, but it’s very encouraging for those that have been pining for the series to return for so long. For years, there have been rumblings that another installment may happen, but fears about the size of the fanbase kept all that at bay. For now, all hopeful fans can do is stay tuned and hope to hear something a little more substantial.

Times When Denial ls Good for a Family Caregiver

Times When Denial ls Good for a Family Caregiver

Times When Denial ls Good for a Family Caregiver Caregiver Life Balance
When Is Denial Good for a Caregiver

Challenges that are difficult and personal may take time to accept fully
PhotoAlto/Frederic Cirou/Getty Images A better strategy is to gently pose “what if” questions that make the caregiver gradually begin to consider all the coming challenges, rather than denial. After my grandfather Sam had a at the age of 80, his mind was strangely altered. My brother and I would sit next to him during our visits, and he’d tell us rambling stories in a raspy voice about how he’d boxed and beaten Muhammad Ali the night before. This was weird and frightening, but it was my grandmother’s reaction that struck me as even odder. She would observe this scene of her teenage grandsons listening to their beloved Pop Pop with a wide smile on her face. Didn’t she hear, I wondered, the bizarre things her husband was saying? Or was she choosing to ignore his blatant confusion? Reflecting on those visits four decades later, I’m certain my grandmother was using a form of denial to cope with the situation. Many patients and family caregivers do, I’ve learned. It wasn’t that she was pretending that Pop Pop hadn’t had a stroke or that it hadn’t greatly affected him. Instead, she was minimizing her recognition of the full extent of its impact, and seeing love, not incoherence, in his baffling tall tales. As a way to cope, has a mixed reputation. Psychologists view it as a common means of self-preservation that keeps the denier from being emotionally overwhelmed by illness, disability and other difficult circumstances. But adult children who are responsible for their parents’ well-being often regard the elders’ denial as dangerous wishful thinking, especially if their parents insist on or if they resist moving from multistory homes when at risk for tumbling down the stairs. Indeed, one of the harshest put-downs that frustrated health care and social service professionals say to one another about balky patients and family members who won’t follow clinical recommendations is that they’re “in denial” — that is, out of touch with reality. When are denial and minimization helpful techniques for ? And how should you respond to denial that seems to be destructive refusal to accept change? Here are some ideas. Respect the good that denial can do — for now. Most patients and family caregivers who under-react to an emerging medical crisis aren’t engaging in make-believe. They are dealing with a bad situation as much as they can handle, without feeling a panicked sense that their lives are out of control. In these instances, downplaying the catastrophes ahead may not lull them into false security, but instead shield them just enough to maintain confidence and hope in order to keep trying as hard as they can. Acknowledging the extent of my grandfather’s cognitive decline would have served no purpose other than to alarm, demoralize and probably depress my grandmother. But perceiving her Sam as the same old entrancing conversationalist he’d always been gave her the comfort that he was still partly himself and that their loving relationship hadn’t changed. Don’t force a confrontation. Sometimes, professionals and family members try to run roughshod over a caregiver’s denial by making her squarely face (“for her own good”) the grim situation at hand. But in my clinical experience, confrontation often produces one of two harmful effects — either the caregiver, suddenly stripped of all illusions, becomes despondent or she avoids what she’s not ready to face by shunning the confronter. With either result, nothing will have been accomplished except for a decrease in . A better strategy is to gently pose “what if” questions over time that make the caregiver gradually begin to consider all the coming challenges and possible ways of grappling with them. For example, I might have asked my grandmother, “What would you do if Pop Pop becomes too confused to make decisions for himself?” She might have become annoyed with me, pooh-poohing the question. But she likely would have started musing to herself what her options were, such as making sure there was always someone with him, discussing with him any decisions he’d be asked to make or even making all decisions for him. Compromise on what can and should be handled. Few of us are such dry-eyed realists that we are immediately ready to contend with all that caregiving throws at us. We confront the bad realities if and when we can psychologically handle them. Using a little denial may even help us keep the past alive. In my grandmother’s eyes, my grandfather was all sweetness to the day he died, no matter how many imaginary boxing matches he thought he had won. There is sweetness for me now in that memory of the two of them enjoying each other’s company as they always had. , a clinical psychologist, family therapist and healthcare consultant, is the co-author of and (Da Capo, 2016). TimeSplitters Rewind re emerges with 30 minute gameplay video

TimeSplitters Rewind re-emerges with 30 minute gameplay video Eurogamer.net If you click on a link and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. Read our editorial policy. TimeSplitters Rewind re-emerges with 30 minute gameplay video Radical. News by Wesley Yin-Poole Deputy Editorial Director Updated on 19 Sep 2020 22 comments Remember TimeSplitters Rewind? The last time we reported on the fan-made recreation of TimeSplitters 1, 2 and 3 was back in 2018. Now, it's reemerged with a 30 minute gameplay video. For the uninitiated, TimeSplitters was the game some of the key creators of seminal console shooter GoldenEye left Rare to make back in the late '90s (check out our oral history of Perfect Dark to find out the inside story on that). The fast-paced first-person shooter was an early hit on the PlayStation 2, and was quickly followed by a couple of sequels before TimeSplitters 4 fell by the wayside. In the video below, Jake 'The Voice' Parr, lead writer for TimeSplitters Rewind, says the developers have up to 10 players playing simultaneously alongside 10 bots in many game modes. "The game is looking and feeling really close," Parr said, although there is no launch window yet. 57 people are working on it. The TimeSplitters IP has been around the block. Crysis maker Crytek picked it up when it rescued Free Radical from bankruptcy in 2009, and then, amid financial troubles of its own, sold the TimeSplitters IP to THQ Nordic in 2018. In August 2019, the news broke that former Rare and Free Radical veteran Steve Ellis had joined THQ Nordic to work on whatever's next for TimeSplitters. That work is going on at Nottingham studio Dambuster. TimeSplitters Rewind has been knocking about since 2012. The developers are still after help to get the game across the finish line, but it seems closer to release now than in a long time. Tesla hit a bit of a rough patch in China this April. It all started when closed circuit cameras in a Shanghai parking garage caught a Model S exploding into flames for seemingly no reason. And now a very pissed off Chinese ride-hailing company by the name of IUnicorn (aka Shenma Zhuanche) has voiced its anger at Tesla in the most public way possible, by taking out ads shaming the electric car maker on Times Square billboards. IUnicorn's business model is based on offering rides in luxurious electric cars, which pretty much limits it to buying Teslas and Jaguar I-Paces while the rest of the auto industry works on competitors of their own. IUnicorn owns about 278 Teslas that it bought between 2016 and 2017, and according to what the billboards said, around 20% of them experienced some sort of issue with their electric drivetrains. Tesla But IUnicorn's main complaint isn't just about how unreliable its Tesla fleet has turned out to be, it's about how long Tesla's Chinese service network took to repair the cars. Apparently, each Tesla sent to service took an average of 45 days to fix, which cost the company 6.5 million yuan ($970,000) in lost revenue. IUnicorn wants the automaker to compensate it for the lost business, but that may be hard to wring out of Tesla considering how much money the automaker lost over this past quarter. Since negotiations with Tesla were going nowhere, IUnicorn rented out three billboards on the Thomson Reuters building in Times Square to voice its frustration and demand cash. The messages were only up for a half hour, which wasn't enough time for an IUnicorn employee to get a picture, but it's gone ahead and rendered the scene on its Weibo page for our viewing pleasure. Tesla Given that the text is in Chinese, IUnicorn's message was probably lost on many New Yorkers. But those able to read Mandarin could see that the billboards said, "Tesla, fix it or not," "Tesla, compensate or not," and "Tesla, admit it or not." Printed underneath that were IUnicorn's losses, including the alleged 20% failure rate of its Tesla fleet and the 3.5 million minutes of time the company lost while the vehicles were in service. According to Quartz, the movie Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri inspired IUnicorn's method of retribution. The logic behind it was summarized in IUnicorn's Weibo post, which said, "The more you keep a case in the public eye, the better your chances are at getting it solved." Knowing Elon Musk's temper, IUnicorn's method will probably only make Tesla's cold shoulder freeze over entirely. The fever can kind of come from whichever direction you need it to come from that day. It can be a kissing off to authority, a middle finger to snobbery, another bird to general cruelty or a rebelliousness that needs no origin or address. The commencement of that fevered pitch can start off as gently as it want as well, even imperceptibly, without the slightest idea that it's going to become something red and noxious, completely without reason. Or it can start just as a light, pop, and it's flaring, roaring out its piping hot demands to be paid attention to or else.

Times New Viking are purveyors of this kind of homemade, non-sanitized outburst of emotion, this quavering stun gunning of immediacy and off-the-handle temperament that is all for release and would never turn against its master and cause any behavior problems. The Columbus three-piece doesn't scare any bejeezus or stuffing out of anyone, it just rages its six feet and three heads off, doing it as hard and as loud as it can, making their lo-fi rumblings feel like monstrous hot geysers of vitriol and secretions. The songs on their latest album, Rip It Off, as well as all of their older output for that matter, are spectacular forms of testiness and what happens when a mind reels and reels and reels and then goes on to work its fourth job on the third shift. It's what happens when that crafty mind gets carried away - it just starts saying things and feeling the throes of anxiety, the rest of the world closing in on it with those walls with spikes in them and cobra snakes hissing from the corners and a chamber to the side that's just poised to spring open at any moment, unleashing a hideous foe. It's a very "Evil Dead/Army of Darkness" sort of paranoia that goes on to expand upon itself into the realms of wire-tapping and higher order conspiracy theory, the kind that will jumble you up into a dizzy blend of jitters. How appropriate is it when it can be explained away as cleaning as drummer and vocalist Adam Elliott does in his description of the song "The Apartment"? All he has to say in explaining his mounting paranoia, his escalating nuttiness is, "Luckily, I was just high."

It's a fitting moral to the story and every time I repeat it back, emphasizing the comma, the drawn out pause and sigh that you can plug into that line, I do so with a gray-haired thespian's cool voice, the kind that would introduce a Wide World of Disney Sunday night movie, like prefacing the hijinks of the twins in "The Parent Trap." Simply, letting the drugs get to you is probably something that has to happen in Columbus, Ohio, one of the least realized biggest cities in America, for things to get too bad. It's not the best place ever, but damn if there aren't thousands of worse places to call home. It's a tug and a pull that everyone who calls the Midwest home feels, to some degree. There's a different kind of angst here in the center of it all, one that just rolls along and makes the sounds of skateboard wheels on a sidewalk, every few seconds clacking hard against a crack, representing that spike in the fevered pitch, when you allow yourself to go ever so briefly hoarse blathering about the atrocities of living in an armpit or just somewhere that's seen as a far cry from glamorousness. Everyone wants to live in a place that's so alive it hurts, but everyone wants to die in a place that makes them feel like the Midwest or the ocean. When you've got to do both - mostly because you choose and also because you've got no choice - it's what Times New Viking gets at, with Jared Phillips, Beth Murphy and Elliott daisy-chaining their battered voices and beaten instruments together to form new ways to feel like you've lost it or you'll soon be losing it too.

Tour Dates Pop

The company’s first New York performances under his direction , at Florence Gould Hall on Friday and Saturday, could have been programmed by Byer. In recent months, New York City has seen an unexpected increase in migrants seeking asylum in the United States who have been sent to the city from other states including Texas and Arizona." While some might consider Times Square the perfect place to roll the dice, Gottfried, whose district includes the area, said it's not suitable. "We've worked very hard for decades to upgrade Times Square and make it a much better place for all New Yorkers than it was only two or three or four decades ago," he said. But in another sense, Melendez is subtly shifting the company’s emphasis. "I would not want to see casinos moving in and really turning the clock back. While there are fewer families in the shelters now than there were in the years before the pandemic, the number of single men has soared since the spring, largely because of the influx of migrants. The enhanced graphics are being delivered by SMT, which has provided broadcast technology to the TCS New York City Marathon since 2009. " The union representing hotel workers said expanding gaming has the potential to provide thousands of jobs in an industry devastated by the pandemic. Since its founding, the company’s repertory has consisted mostly of 20th-century chamber ballets of the kind considered too small, and perhaps too old-fashioned, for big ballet troupes, like de Mille’s “Carousel” and Limón’s “Mazurkas. The Broadway League has come out against a casino in Times Square. It released a statement saying: "The Broadway League does not endorse a casino in Times Square.) Melendez, 36, plans to keep many of them, he said, though what motivates him is different: “Diana liked these works because of their value to the history of dance.” The tents were initially planned for a far-off corner of the Bronx, but were moved after concerns about flooding and criticism from immigrant advocates over the remote location. The addition of a casino will overwhelm the already densely congested area and would jeopardize the entire neighborhood whose existence is dependent on the success of Broadway. Broadway is the key driver of tourism and risking its stability would be detrimental to the City.” Image Melendez rehearsing with, from left, Sarah Stafford, Hannah Davis and Kieran McBride at Theater Ballet’s East Village studio. "The New York City Marathon changed my life. " NY casino license battle heating up Bidding wars are heating up over three authorized downstate casinos in New York, and two giants of the gaming and real estate industry are coming together to bid to build a casino in Times Square.
