5 Things We Miss From Year One Of Destiny 1 & 5 We Don t

Destiny 1 Year 1 seems so long ago. Here are 5 things we miss from there first game and 5 we don't. With constantly and rapidly expanding, and rumors of a coming into the picture, players who have been around from the start are feeling a bit nostalgic for the simplicity of the game when it first came out, problems and all. RELATED: There were a lot of problems that occurred in year 1 of , some, like and over-powered weapons, will be a constant in gameplay. Others are possibly gone forever, whether players are happy or not. Even with all the problems, the first year of the first Destiny game was iconic in shaping a lot of games and their strategies to this day. Here are five of the things we miss from year one, and five that we're pretty glad are gone. THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

Miss New and mysterious

When the game , it honestly felt like a secret space player would hide from others. Bungie made it possible for the game to feel so cooperative and intimate at the same time. The game will never feel that way again. Traversing the Deadzone on Earth and grinding out gear, finding hidden places, and stumbling into high-level areas was an adventure that was fun either by yourself or with friends. The Fireteam's were small, and there was no LFG, so while it was frustrating finding a team, once you found a good one, it was so good to feel like an adventuring team.

Don t Miss Exclusivity

On that note, without LFG, there were a lot of people who didn't have friends on the game, and leveling up for those people could prove difficult. If the player hadn't done the raid before or their light level wasn't high enough, they couldn't hang; and, of course, that led to a vicious cycle of not being able to get the gear needed to join the groups doing the raids. RELATED: On the flip side, players who had good luck in RNG and knew people, the more they were sought after. It was hard for a lot of players, and we're glad they remedied it.

Miss Unique Exotics and Legendaries

There weren't a whole lot of Exotics and Legendaries when the game came out. But the few that existed were pretty darn special. come to mind immediately, a sniper that never runs out of ammo? Yes, please. Then, of course, the game-winning rocket launcher was a must in Raids. Thorn was also a game-changer in Crucible, and Vex Mythoclast wasn't the most useful after its nerf, but it looked way cooler than anything else in the game. These days, Legendary and Exotic weapons don't change the circumstances as much as they used to, sure it's nice to have a specific weapon in the raid, but not required. Unlike in The Vault of Glass, where, if you claimed to be a sniper, you HAD to have Ice Breaker.

Don t Miss RNG drops

During the first year, there wasn't a high likelihood for Exotics or even Legendaries to drop often. Blue engrams were still a thing, and even if you had a Legendary engram, it could still turn out to be a not-Legendary item! The loot system was severely flawed, and players who would grind for hours wouldn't get as good drops as some who'd just done their first raid. (I should know, I got Mythoclast the first time I did The Vault of Glass with an experienced raid team, none of which had it).

Miss Fun Glitches

There are still in the game, but that will happen with any game. But in year one, there were a ton of fun, too-good-to-be-true glitches. The loot cave on Earth, the sniper spot and sword flying in Crota's End, pushing the Templar and Atheon off the cliff. Some of these were easy to find and beneficial to all players. RELATED: Others were just entertaining to play with and make the game unnecessarily easy. Plus, it was always fun to brag to other players about how quickly you completed the raid because of the good glitches.

Don t Miss Detrimental Glitches

On the other hand, there were a lot of glitches in the game that would crush the player's spirit and will to live. Atheon spawning in and out of existence on top of the player, ruining their flawless run and possibly hours of work in the blink of an eye. Or Crota following people into the safe room? That was terrifying the first time it happened to players, especially if it was the player's first time doing the raid, thinking there was nowhere safe from this Hive Demon chasing them around. Sure there are awful glitches in the game these days, but they're usually fixed rather quickly. These were game-breaking, and some players' rage-quitting was getting out of control.

Miss Saving Throws

A moment the player could genuinely be proud of was unleashing their Ultimate during a Raid or the Crucible and pretty much turning the tide of the whole battle or match. RELATED: Nova Bomb and Golden Gun could do exponential damage to enemies, sure, but reviving yourself during a Crota checkpoint, having your fireteam cheer for you and pulling everyone to the next part of the Raid made you feel like the best guardian in the game. It isn't unheard of today to pull out a game-saving move, but it's a bit rarer and not nearly acknowledged as much anymore.

Don t Miss Raids Being Easy

The first time the player did a raid was fun, exciting, and new. But after two or three times, it gets repetitive and just as easy as the rest of the Player versus Environment content in the game. Crota's End has been referred to and made fun of as a really easy part of the game, with all of the glitches and tricks you could three-man it quickly and even one-man it after a while. There wasn't much of a challenge to it, which for some people was nice, but for most of the gaming community, the difficulty of a game is the reason we play it.

Miss Dinklebot

After all these years, we have gotten used to and learned to love Nolan North's Ghost. That said, people who played in year one are still slightly bitter about its' voice changing seemingly overnight. It felt so sudden, and we missed our old Little Light's voice a lot. Nolan North has done a great job of embodying the character, and new players probably couldn't imagine Ghost in a different voice - it even sounds odd in old clips to OG players - it was an exciting change that we're glad they did while it was still

Don t Miss Lack of Content

As influential as this game was on the future of online gaming, the first year was... repetitive at best. There wasn't much of a story, and in the very beginning, three Strikes and one Raid. Other than logging on on Tuesday and doing the Raid and Nightfall and some scattered Crucible games throughout the week, there wasn't much to do. Thankfully the plot was expanded on (House of Wolves was one arguably the best DLC in the franchise), and the full content of the is massive and enjoyable. NEXT:
