PRESENTED BY COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 1 Maryland men’s soccer team defeated American, 2-1, Tuesday night at Ludwig Field to stay unbeaten in 2016. Sophomores Amar Sejdic and Gordon Wildscored for Maryland (12-0-2, 6-0-1 B1G) which moved its winning streak to nine games with Tuesday’s victory. The Terps have not lost since falling to Ohio State in Columbus on Oct. 31, 2015 – a stretch of 19-straight matches. Sejdic kicked off the scoring with an absolute blast from 20 yards after a give-and-go from Jake Rozhansky in the 27th minute for a 1-0 lead. It was the sophomore’s sixth goal this season. Sejdic's goal sure was purty! — Maryland Soccer (@MarylandMSoccer) American answered with a header from five yards by Chris Fanet at 33:14. Wild put the Terps on top with his fifth game-winner of the year in the 70th minute off a left-footed rocket from on top of the 18 to the far post. It is the Cologne, Germany, native’s league-leading 11th goal of the year. Sejdic was credited with the assist - his league-leading seventh in 2016. Not to be outdone, here's Wild's goal in the 70th minute! — Maryland Soccer (@MarylandMSoccer) Senior goalkeeper Cody Niedermeier made a highlight-reel save off a point-blank shot from Panos Nakhid with 54 seconds remaining to preserve the win. C-O-D-Y, Seriously though - so hard to get past this guy! — Maryland Soccer (@MarylandMSoccer) "It was a great game. It had the feel of a local darby,” head coach Sasho Cirovksi said. “American is an exceptional team, certainly better than their record indicates. They were highly motivated and we once again found the resolve to come out and win the game. We scored two great goals on the night and made a great save. “They challenged us. They played at a high tempo and made the game exciting. I have to give American a lot of credit for their competitive spirit in the game and their quality. They're a good team."
