Return To Monkey Island Will Feature A Built-In Hint System 26 April 2022 by Oisin Kuhnke If you haven’t heard, there’s a brand new Monkey Island game in development. And for those who get stuck easily, there’s going to be a built-in hint system. Earlier this month, a brand new Monkey Island game, Return to Monkey Island, was announced by Devolver Digital. It’s the first new game in the franchise in 15 years, and comes from the original creator Ron Gilbert. But some of the puzzles in the original games were a bit too unfair. They weren’t always being particularly clear on what you needed to do next. So speaking to Ars Technica, Gilbert explained how things will be different with this upcoming sequel. Gilbert does think that hints can spoil the game, but because of how prevalent guides for games are now, he thought he might as well include them. “[One thing] that people really want in games today are built-in hint systems,” said Gilbert. “If [players] don’t have a built-in hint system, they’re just going to jump over to the web and… read a walkthrough.” So to help with that, a hint system is being included in the game, designed to make sense “in the fantasy.” And it will apparently provide “more than just a walkthrough.”ADVERT ADVERT getting weird with it “”[There was] a lot of stuff that we did back then and didn’t think much about—a lot of very obscure puzzles,” Gilbert added. “Hiding a piece of information somewhere with no clues about where to find it—that kind of thing just wouldn’t fly today… Having hint systems means that if you make the puzzle just completely weird and obscure, people just go to the hint system.” It sounds like Gilbert and team really wants to lean into the weirdness with its puzzles. Which hopefully will provide an interesting and fresh take on the point-and-click adventure game. Return to Monkey Island is set to launch sometime in 2022, but no specific date has been set.ADVERT ADVERT The fighting in Ukraine is causing families to flee their homes.
